Thunder Blink claimed favourite La Forza 100m out after peeling into the open on the far side 400m out from midfield to win the first Griffin contest of the campaign. He had caught the eye in his final of five trials. La Forza found one too good after assuming the lead 400m out following a pace-prompting run from a low draw. He ran well but found one too good. Santorini grudgingly gave way after emerging with the lead 700m out. It was a pleasing debut effort. California Moxie ran on steadily for fourth after a midfield run. He requires a longer trip. Run Yes Run gradually faded after vying for the lead from an inside draw. California Star was doing his best work late after biding his time one from the rear. He is bred to want a further trip. Skyey Blue ran out of stamina after jumping quickest of all before settling just off the leaders 750m out. California Banner never got into the act from the rear of the pack. Supreme Winner couldn't lift his feet over the late stages after making his run behind midfield on the grandstand side.
