A downtown Rock Island apartment building is getting over $2 million in additional funding for preservation and upgrades. Economic Growth Corporation (GROWTH), an award-winning nonprofit Community Housing Development Organization, has announced they received $2.5 million in funding from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) to preserve and upgrade Sala Flats, located at 1829 Fourth Avenue in Rock Island. A diesel fuel leak has led Galesburg to temporarily close Lake Storey, according to an email from the city. The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a diesel fuel leak in the 3100 block of Log City Trail near South Lake Storey on February 8 and used large absorbent booms to help manage the spill.
