When I think about classic summer colors, various shades of white, blue, and yellow come to mind. It’s a season of vibrancy, where taking a color risk is kind of the norm. But this summer, I noticed that celebrities have veered away from regular summer hues and instead gravitated towards a surprising color that’s usually associated with fall: brown.
When Khloé Kardashian popped up on my Instagram in March wearing a dark brown one-piece swimsuit, I didn’t think much of it — given it was going to be the summer of Barbie, it never once crossed my mind that people would be wearing anything other than pink. But then Selena Gomez broke the internet last month when she wore a smocked, cognac one-piece, and most recently, Heidi Klum posed in a mocha string bikini. It’s become clear my assumption was off — brown swimwear is the underdog this season.
While the end of summer is near, I’d like to think there’s still a good month of vacations and poolside-weekends. If you’ve got any last-minute trips coming up, I found 10 suits in the flattering shade celebrities can’t stop wearing, and prices start at $23:
- Summersalt Ruched High-Leg High-Rise Bottom, $23 with code SALE25 (Originally $45); summersalt.com
- Summersalt String Bikini Top, $38 with code SALE25 (Originally $50) summersalt.com

I’m one of those people that’s really picky about a bikini. Obviously I don’t want full-coverage (I am opting for a two-piece, afterall) but I don’t want to feel naked. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to find an option from Summersalt that perfectly nails my wants and is available in a pretty brown shade. By pairing the brand’s Ruched High-Rise Bottoms with its Bikini Top, you’re still getting that classic summer look with a little more fabric at both the stomach and butt. Shoppers say that the “full coverage” bottoms made them “feel confident.” “It has great coverage but [is] still stylish,” said another person.

For something similar to Gomez’s smocked one-piece, I personally love this ribbed option from Floerns, which features a flattering V-neck and a criss-crossed back. And shoppers have gone so far as to name it their “favorite” swimsuit this year, explaining that even after buying more expensive options, they found Floerns’ to be “pretty and soft,” high quality, and “very supportive even without underwire.” According to another person, the style is “simple but sexy” and “very flattering.”

Skims also makes a simple brown one-piece that shoppers call “excellent.” According to a number of customers, the swimsuit is shockingly versatile. “I have been wanting a suit that can double as a bodysuit and this is it,” wrote one person, who added that when they wear it out they get “so many compliments on it.” And like most pieces from Skims — a brand that launched with shapewear — wearers claim that this swimsuit “snatches the waist.” “We all need at least one one-piece, and this is the perfect one. It holds you and snatches your body,” claimed one customer.

Though it might have surprised me, I’m now completely convinced that brown is summer’s most flattering and versatile color. Shop more celebrity-inspired swimwear, below.
